Almost every person follows a profession in life except, of course, the lazy and the born-rich people. Even stealing has been considered one of the 64 arts as per ancient Hindu texts – perhaps, it is nothing short of qualifying a profession. We all dream of a way of life according to one’s skills, knowledge and above all, aptitude. Many land in jobs not to their liking but only for livelihood or for survival. A person bogged down by responsibilities of family or parents may have to compromise with unsatisfying jobs. Also our selection processes are so outdated and lacking in proper assessment of individuals.
Coming to Astrology, the tenth house, its lord and planets posited therein or aspecting planets in a birth chart (horoscope) are studied with regard to one's profession. If the 10th house is strong and / or its lord is strong or there are beneficial aspects on the 10th house, one can be assured of a good job provided there are no negative aspects on the 4th and 7th houses. Among divisional charts, Dasamsa (D-10) is also important. The karakatatva planets are Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn as per traditional (vedic) astrology. According to Nadi Astrology, a lot of importance is given to Saturn for profession.

A strong lagna or ascendant (rising sign at birth) and 2nd or 11th house can mitigate the problems of joblessness to a great extent. Of course, the operating dasa (planetary period) too needs to be examined with reference and relation to the 10th house occupier(s), lord, aspects etc. In Nadi Astrology, trinal aspect (1, 5, 9) of transit Jupiter on the 10th house (natal chart), is expected to give positive results in a job. So also transit Saturn does give good results in trinal aspect.
